This summer, Embodied Philosophy Publications released Tarka Journal Volume 9: On Power. We are delighted to now share the recording of our launch party, where you can meet some of the contributors and hear more about the ideas behind their essays.
Power is a recurring theme in so much of what we practice and study: in traditions and lineages, institutions, bodies, and relationships. In On Power, new and returning contributors to Tarka turn a contemplative eye toward its many dimensions, ancient and modern.
For yoga and meditation practitioners, the issue explores power in multiple guises: as ascetic discipline and inner attunement, political and institutional force, the creative potency of the divine feminine, the subtle somatics of kuṇḍalinī, the freedom discovered through devotion, and the quiet authority transmitted through our personal and political lives.
The launch brings together contributors including Trish Tillman, Jacob Kyle, Christopher Jain Miller, Jensen Martin, Kalpesh Bhatt, Isa Gucciardi, Devora Neumark, Igor Kufayev, Stephanie Corigliano, Bex Naj, and Alba Rodriguez.
You’ll hear Jacob Kyle introduce the history and mission of Tarka, Stephanie Corigliano reflect on why we chose power as the theme for Volume 9, and contributors share the ideas behind their essays and how power intersects with their own research and practice. Floss Harry guides the conversation before we close with a look ahead at the future of Tarka.
